Salt Lick Safari Lodge offers accommodation in 96 stilted bandas (rooms) built across two levels, each with an ensuite bathroom, permanent shower, hot and cold running water, ceiling fan, and classic safari décor. Many rooms provide uninterrupted vistas over the surrounding plains and the busy waterholes that come alive with wildlife at dawn, dusk, and night. The lodge’s elevated restaurant, bar lounge, and viewing terraces are positioned to maximize views of wildlife activity, allowing you to enjoy meals or sundowners while watching elephants, lions, giraffes, and birds gathering below. Dining at the Bura Restaurant features buffet breakfasts, lunch, and dinner with Pan-African and international cuisine, while specialty experiences such as bush breakfasts, picnic sundowners, and “Out of Africa” dinners under the stars create memorable safari moments. For those who want closer encounters, the lodge also offers a unique underground wildlife viewing tunnel that brings you near animal action at ground level. Guests can enjoy guided game drives, nature walks, bird watching, cultural visits to Taita communities, and plenty of opportunities to photograph the spectacular environment.
Salt Lick Safari Lodge is located within the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private 28,000-acre conservation area that borders Tsavo East and West National Parks in Taita-Taveta County, Kenya. The sanctuary itself supports diverse wildlife and over 300 species of birds, allowing safari experiences that are both rich and varied. The lodge sits conveniently close to Voi town, and is accessible by road from Nairobi (approx. 6–7 hours), by rail via the Madaraka Express with connection transports, or by air through nearby charter airstrips. The elevated stilted location offers spectacular views over the savannah and waterholes, where game viewing continues throughout the day and night.
